En 2005, abarcaba el 73% del National Union Catalog [catálogo de libros anteriores a 1956]. WorldCat está disponible en muchas bibliotecas y redes informáticas de universidades y desde agosto de 2006, está disponible gratuitamente a través de Internet. En 2009 la cifra de registros bibliográficos alcanzaba los 150 millones en 470 idiomas.
